Soviet Modernism Architecture Tour

Tashkent's cult concrete icons — Hotel Uzbekistan, the State Museum, mosaic-covered facades and the world's most beautiful metro stations. This one-day itinerary stands apart from the classic capital tours and takes you back to the 1970s and 1980s, when Tashkent was rebuilt on an enormous scale after the earthquake of 1966.

Architects arriving from across the Soviet Union were handed whole districts to redesign, and what they produced was modernism with a Central Asian accent: sun-breaking screens borrowed from panjara lattice, ganch ornament cast in concrete, and metro halls finished in marble and cut glass. In 2026 an ensemble of ten of these buildings and urban complexes was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
