Overview
This two-day tour takes you to Nukus and Khiva, two of the most important cultural sites in Uzbekistan. Igor Savitsky arrived in the Autonomous Republic of Karakalpakstan in the 1950s, and soon acquired a large collection of ethnographic materials about the people of Central Asia, plus the works of Soviet avant-garde artists who were banned by the state. The Savitsky Museum today is one of the most incredible museums in the world, with a collection unrivaled anywhere else.
The second day of the tour is taken up by Khiva, an excellent example of a wholly-preserved ancient city. As an open-air museum, Khiva is perfect for a stroll through narrow streets and intricately-decorated monuments, just to feel what the city was centuries ago, at the height of the Silk Road. For those with just a little time to spare, this Nukus and Khiva Tour is perfect for bringing you to the best museums in Uzbekistan.
The tour is available every day, except Mondays, as the Savitsky Karakalpakstan Art Museum is closed on Mondays.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1Tashkent – Nukus – Khiva
Transfer to domestic airport. Morning flight to Nukus (810 km, 1 h. 40 min.). Arrive in Nukus* and visit the Savitsky Karakalpakstan Art Museum**. The museum hosts the world's second largest collection of Russian avant-garde art and exposition of Karakalpak applied arts items. Have a short drive around center of Nukus: see statue of Karakalpak poet Berdakh, Nukus City Hall, and Drama Theatre. In the afternoon depart to Khiva (200 km, 4-5 h.). On the way visit archaeological monuments of Ancient Khorezm: Chilpyk Zoroastrian dakhma, and Toprak-Kala – the capital of Khorezm dating back to the 3rd century A.D. Arrive in Khiva, check in to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel. *Guide for sightseeing tour in Nukus is not included and is available upon request. ** Due to renovations in Block 1 of the Savitsky Museum, some archaeological and applied arts exhibitions are closed indefinitely. Only Block 2 is currently open to visitors.
Day 2Khiva – Urgench – Tashkent
Check-out from hotel till noon. Today you will visit Ichan-Kala Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The tour features visit to Mukhammad Aminkhan Madrasah, Mukhammad Rahimkhan Madrasah, Kalta-Minor, Juma Mosque, Tash-Khovli Palace, Pakhlavan Makhmud Mausoleum. Try yourself at climbing Islam-Khoja Minaret, the highest minaret in Uzbekistan. Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Old Khiva in Kunya-Ark. Free time in the afternoon. In the evening you will be transferred to Urgench airport (30 min.) for flight to Tashkent. Upon arrival transfer to hotel/private residence. End of the 2-day Nukus and Khiva Tour from Tashkent. Duration of sightseeing tour: 5 hours
